O candeeiro de mesa VL38 foi originalmente concebido no final da década de 1930 por Vilhelm Lauritzen, em parceria com a Louis Poulsen, para a construção do edifício Radiohuset (a emissora pública dinamarquesa) em Copenhaga (atual Academia Real Dinamarquesa de Música). O design do candeeiro VL38, criado por Vilhelm Lauritzen, e o candeeiro de teto VL45, ambos concebidos para a Radiohuset, começaram a aparecer nos catálogos da Louis Poulsen após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, em meados da década de 1940.
